Stephanie has been overweight since she was 8 years old. She has been on countless diets: Medifast, Jenny Craig, she saw 2 different nutritionists, tried raw food diets, a 52-day cleanse, Weightwatchers, no carb diets, diet pills, fit for life, body for life, and the list goes on. It’s not that she is lazy, or that she didn’t want to lose weight, it’s that she just never could stop binge-eating. She’d do fine for a little while and then need to eat a box of donuts. Sticking with it seemed impossible to her.
Stephanie is a perfect candidate for MyBodyTutor because of the daily and personal accountability. It’s really easy to give up if you don’t see results quickly and it’s even easier to get frustrated when the scale doesn’t move and you’ve worked hard all week.
I knew Stephanie needed help from the inside out. Binging doesn’t happen because you’re hungry. It’s because something is bothering you deep down but you’re not sure how to deal with it since you’re just so used to binging and covering up those feelings.
So Stephanie promised that she’d call or email me whenever she felt the need to binge and we’d talk through why she wanted to binge. Eventually, we get down to the problem. It’s making all the difference in the world along with the very easy to follow, healthy and practical lifestyle I teach.
The combination of a healthy diet, accountability and emotional support that MBT provides makes it the healthiest, most effective and, by far, the most superior program I’ve ever been on!!
I guess everyone starts a weight-loss program differently. I personally usually start a diet when I’m really fired up and determined to lose weight. When Adam and I had our introductory talk, I wasn’t sure I was really ready to try to lose weight again. I told him that I would try his program and do the best I could, but that I had grown cynical of diets in general and I could only promise that I would be honest.
The first week, I followed the program, I ate what he said and filled out my Daily Feedback every night to tell him when and what I ate and if I had exercised. He encouraged me to eat a lot more fat than I usually did and to eat so often that I never really got hungry. That week was not what I expected.
I felt good, sort of calm, more focused and I wasn’t really craving sugar. I loved getting Adam’s feedbacks in the morning and it was great to share with him how I was doing everyday. Then it happened, my first road-block. At the end of the week, I got on the scale and I hadn’t lost any weight. I became instantly frustrated. Adam and I talked (maybe it would’ve sounded like arguing to a passerby) that although I felt great, if I wasn’t losing weight, what was the point?
He told me that feeling great was the point and there was no greater way to get results than to be healthy. He asked if I could honestly think of a better, more natural, sustainable and healthy way to lose weight. He also pointed out that my expectations were unreasonable and quick results were not what we were going for. He was right, I couldn’t think of a better way and I agreed to trust him.
So I stuck with it, expressing my concern everyday that I was wasting my time and energy on being healthy. He had his work cut out for him, for sure, but he stuck with me. I dropped 9 lbs in the 2nd week. He was right, I was wrong, but this is the difference that the program really makes... you can't just be committed when it's easy. I challenged him, argued with him, got discouraged and he only became more committed to my success in the face of it and it's been like that the whole time.
I think so often where I would shut down on a diet is in how I thought about it. It’s not that I didn’t want to lose weight, it’s that I think about it all wrong and he totally changed that. My mindset is/was more geared toward immediate gratification and I didn’t really know how to feed my body and the signals my body was giving, I would misinterpret.
This program is great because it doesn't give me any room to think for myself, so to speak…. You get a personalized program designed for you, Adam gives you feedback on everything you do, on Sundays you have a personal call with him talking about how the week was and setting goals for the next week, sort-of like pressing a “weekly reset button” and when you get stuck or feel discouraged, he gets in your face and pushes you to keep going but in a motivating way - not a bashing way.
He is re-training me how to think about my body… it’s amazing that you get all that for $249/month. It’s not only the best program I’ve ever been on; it’s one of the least expensive!!!
I’m not burnt out, only excited for the future and to keep working with Adam!
