Last November I had lunch with my good friend Deb. She looked fabulous! I had never seen her with so much energy and so thin. I asked her what she was doing and she showed me MyBodyTutor. I put this information in my pocket and went about my day. At this point I had gained 30 pounds.

I have been a personal trainer and a regular runner for years, and yes even someone who supposedly knows how to exercise and eat right needs support. In fact, I have run several marathons including the Boston Marathon. How had I gained this weight?

Sugar, sadness, fear etc. I hurt every day and thought I would have to give up running because of my joints. I had gone to the doctor with the self-diagnosis of arthritis and hypothyroidism (neither of which I had) to try and explain my weight gain. I also thought perhaps this was due to menopause. In fact, my doctor told me I could expect to gain 10 pounds per decade and to just accept this fact. NO WAY I said!

I decided that I was either going to join weight watchers or try MyBodyTutor. I chose to try MBT because I felt I needed personal attention. You see, I have Celiac disease and I really needed someone to take this into consideration. I had tried naturopaths, nutritionists, other trainers and the medical establishment. But never received the guidance to break the cycle of binge/fast and finally master healthy, thoughtful, nutritious eating.

I should also mention that I am not a pupil of moderation. I am an all or nothing, feast or famine, intense person. When I decide to do something, whether it be starving myself or eating everything in sight, I do it with gusto. This type of personality dynamic led to a weight of 157 pounds when I started with MBT.

My tutor, from the get go, was incredibly insightful with all aspects of life. She especially showed me how avoidance of a variety of emotions was a key factor in my sugar addiction. She provided me with daily feedback, amazing recipes and forced me out of my comfort zone on multiple occasions. In short, she and MyBodyTutor changed my life.

Through her I have addressed more in the last 5 months than I did in years of therapy. Not only have I stopped using food as a numbing substance for stressful thoughts or emotions, I get up early, I am not always exhausted, my joint pain is gone, and I meditate on a daily basis. I am not hungry anymore. Yes I said it. I am not hungry anymore.

I eat in moderation and do not crave foods that while may be sweet for a few seconds, will lead me to hours of pain. The app that comes with the program allows me to practice journaling my food, emotions, cravings, sleep, exercise etc. This has been essential to my success as it sets my intention for the following day and assists me with follow through.

My tutor has a gentle but direct way of guiding me to discover the “why” behind unhealthy habits and the “how” to change them. This type of attention and skill in behavioral change does not happen in other methods. I believe that is why I have had success with MBT. It is not a quick fix, it is a real, day to day work, change your thoughts, emotions and behavior kind of program. This is why I know I’ll be able to sustain my results.

MyBodyTutor is worth its weight (and them some) in gold. I have paid far more for other programs and diet fads that only served to worsen my underlying issues. I am now 125 pounds and in a size 2. I get up early, have no pain and am told on a regular basis how young and vibrant I look.

While I appreciate these type of compliments, they do not come close to the positive changes in how I feel about myself. It’s fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don’t. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can’t achieve the same level of success.
