How did you find out about us?
I am a follower of Gretchen Rubin, and had read an interview that she had with you. I checked it out online, and decided to try it, even though I thought it was expensive.
I have been doing community theater for a while, but had just been cast in my first “big time” production. I knew that I was overweight; I had struggled with my weight since I was 12, and had tried most of the well known diets. I am a lifetime card carrying member of Weight Watchers, and, during my lifetime have probably lost and gained back over 200 pounds. As I think about it, I was never obese, just carrying somewhere between 10 and 50 pounds around. I really just wanted to fix things for once and for all…not for an event, just to get my head fixed…which is, of course, where it all lies.
What have you tried in the past?
As I said above, I did Weight Watchers when they had a liver requirement…went through Atkins, the grapefruit diet, nothing super crazy! 🙂
Did you have any hesitations or doubts before joining?
My main concerns were the cost. It IS more expensive than the other methods that I had tried. However, when I add up what I have spent over the years for Weight Watchers and everything else, I welcomed the opportunity to work one on one with someone. I was also concerned that my tutor wouldn’t understand my own needs–since I am a mature woman with an ever slowing metabolism.
What were your hopes before joining?
My hope was that I would learn to be happy with my body, and learn to stop use eating as a crutch for issues, anger and unhappiness.
What made you sign up for MBT?
I stepped on the scale one day, and I was just upset with myself. I vowed that I would attempt to lose the weight on my own, and if that didn’t work, I would work with MBT.
How is MBT different from the billion and one other companies out there?
What I found with MBT was that it wasn’t counting calories or points, but eating real food every day. And the program is not just about the food, but covers exercise and mental attitude, something I had not seen anywhere else. If your head isn’t on straight you really don’t have control what you are putting into your mouth.
Results. How is your life is now? Were your hopes met?
I weigh less than I have in almost 40 years. I really like the way I look. Yes, I still think about food, but that’s kind of the idea…I think before I actually decide to put something in my mouth. Rather than just eating because it’s there and it will taste good, I think about whether it is something that I really want…or if it is just impulse or emotion.
Anything else that you think is worth sharing?
Are you happy with yourself and your relationship with food? Is food like that bad relationship…the guy you just can’t seem to break up with? Or is it a great girlfriend that you are comfortable with? If food is like that bad relationship, I highly recommend MyBodyTutor. What did you say to yourself as you were reading Peggy’s story?
It’s fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don’t. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can’t achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
