Christine R.After years of struggling with weight loss and low energy, I realized it was time to make a change. Fad diets weren’t working – in fact, they only discouraged me further. Real health is not a moment-in-time, it is a way of life. Thankfully, I discovered the power of food as my medicine, and what used to be my enemy became my saving grace. After learning how and what to eat, my body listened quickly.

I battled with my weight since the 8th grade. I remember feeling so uncomfortable in my own skin. It stinks avoiding pool parties or beach days as a kid because you don’t want to be seen in a bathing suit. I know now that a lot of my eating habits were driven by emotions. In retrospect, my weight dilemma began around the time my parent got divorced, while I was in middle school. Maybe I turned to food for comfort, or my immune and digestive systems were impaired due to stress. It wasn’t until the last few years of my life, almost 20 years later, that I have my health under control.

After graduating from Iona College with a BA in education, I began my 8-year teaching career. I taught English and writing at an all-boys high school. I LOVE teaching and helping people to find something within themselves that they never saw before. As I journeyed through my own health story, I became interested in nutrition and holistic wellness. My weight had been up and down for years and with a leap of faith, I decided to enroll at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I got my certification as a nutrition coach. Since my enrollment, I am down 4 sizes (and I’m staying there), I am happy, and I have found my new path in life. I resigned as a teacher and became a health coach and nutrition writer. Wow – it feels good to type that!

Why did I join My Body Tutor?

It’s been a long road to wellness and I know how discouraging, belittling, and downright heart-breaking it can be to try and fail over and over again. I want to help you get there – to the place where you finally feel like yourself! Feeling comfortable inside of your skin will make a world of difference in your life. It will change your relationships, work ethic, and sense of self-worth. I love that MBT is designed to be there with you every step of the way. There won’t be a lack of encouragement and feedback! A friend and mentor, who will understand your fears and applaud your accomplishments, is exactly what you need to reach your health goals.

I have learned over the years that there is no one diet that works for everyone. On the contrary, everyone needs a diet that is designed specifically for him or herself. By working with me, and walking through your health history and future goals, we will work together to formulate your specific plan. And it won’t stop there. We will battle through the tough moments, the questions, the concerns, drawbacks, denials and excuses – until you are ready to carry on independently, without looking back.
