Hey there! My name is Heather, and I am a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.
A little background on me; I am a long-time dancer, a certified Vinyasa Yoga Instructor, and have battled and overcome depression, anxiety, anorexia and binge eating disorder (BED).
At the young age of 13 I struggled with self-comparison, feelings of inadequacy, self-disgust and frustration because of my weight and shape of my body. I would spend countless time in front of the mirror pinching and grabbing at the parts of my body I didn’t like and wanted to change. I would try on many outfits before landing on one that I felt comfortable enough to be seen in, but still not confident. This caused me to quit dance, my one passion that brought me SO much joy.
I questioned everything I ate, and felt guilty after eating, but didn’t have enough knowledge on nutrition or health to know HOW to lose weight or change my body. SO, I started a fad diet that was VERY restrictive.
Enter anorexia. The diet quickly spiraled into obsessively counting calories, weighing myself (every day, or multiple times a day) and over-exercising, which brought me to my lowest weight of my life, and also my most unhealthy body. My white blood cell count dropped very low, and I stopped getting my period for about 6 months.
The transition out of anorexia led me into a severe depression.
Enter binge eating disorder. I began bingeing uncontrollably to escape my feelings of disgust for myself, which then just fed into the bingeing cycle. This lasted for almost a year, and I went quickly from the lowest weight of my life to the highest.
When I finally worked my way out of my severe depression with help from my therapist, I was able to clearly see how I was using food & exercise as an escape from a lack of love, passion, excitement and joy I felt in my life. Recognizing the root of my behavior was KEY.
My holistic health journey began there. I went on to reconnect with my passion for dance, pursue a degree in dance, a yoga certification and now a Nutrition Health Coach certification. I am finally at a place where food, exercise and I have a beautiful, peaceful, healthy relationship, AND I am fueling myself on AND OFF my plate!
