Jessica T.
Hi! My name is Jessica and I’m a Nutritional Therapist, a mom, a recovering people-pleaser, and a geriatric gymnast in training (ha!). Every day I am beyond grateful for the life that I’ve created and the work I get to do – but it wasn’t always this way.
The youngest of three girls, I grew up as the ‘annoying little sister’. Constantly comparing myself to my ‘super cool’ older sisters, I felt like the ugly duckling and struggled with self-confidence. Shortly after my sisters left the nest, my parents got divorced, and I felt abandoned in many ways. My already weak self-esteem took a really big hit and in response I looked for love in all the wrong places. I turned to self-destructive behaviors. Including ending up in an abusive relationship which took nearly a decade for me to finally break free from. After that I quickly moved into a loving but co-dependent relationship. We got married and soon thereafter had my daughter, Charli.
At seven months of age, my daughter was diagnosed with a genetic disorder (Kabuki Syndrome). She had many different medical issues, some more serious than others. I decided to focus on her diet as my main intervention and I immediately saw improvements in her health.
And of course, after all I had learned about the healing powers of food, I couldn’t change her diet without changing my own! As my diet evolved, I watched my health slowly improve with better energy, healthier weight, improved digestion, clearer skin. But a strange thing happened. I had the most unexpected outcome: it changed my outlook on life. As I started to value my health I, in turn, started valuing myself. I finally started to choose myself. I left my marriage, started my own home, travelled solo, made new friendships, healed old relationships and ended unhealthy ones. I had newfound passion and happiness. My anxiety and depression slowly got better. It was undeniably a roller coaster of a journey with some really bad lows but I was having more and more highs. It was all worth it, though, because I came out on the other side loving myself and loving life!
However, I knew something was still not quite right. I was growing increasingly unhappy in my job – the stable, well-paying, perfect-on-paper job. It was destroying me mentally which was also taking a toll on my physical health. I reached a point that I couldn’t take it anymore. I took it as a sign that I had bigger and better things to contribute to the world. I gave my notice and signed up for school at the Nutritional Therapy Association.
And so, here I am! And I’m loving every minute of helping others uncover their love for life through a foundation of diet and health. It all starts with that first step – that leap of faith! I’ve taken lots of big risks and looking back every single one of those risks was worth it. I challenge you now, go all-in on yourself – you won’t regret it.
Why did I join MBT?
Like everything else, I know coming across MBT was a blessing from the universe. I was struggling to start my own coaching business because I didn’t like the ‘business’ aspect of it. I just wanted to help people. But I also didn’t want to join a company that compromised my values. MBT was different though. I immediately fell in love with their approach that allows for building relationships with your clients and closely supporting them in their journey. I appreciated how MBT wasn’t a quick fix scheme (there is no quick fix to this work) but a program to truly help people achieve their goals and create a life-long way of living. They care about more than just the numbers on the scale. They care about the person standing on the scale. And so do I.
