Dan Pink

Daniel H. Pink is the author of five New York Times bestsellers, including his latest, The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. His other books include the New York Times bestsellers When and A Whole New Mind — as well as the #1 New York Times bestsellers Drive and To Sell is Human. Dan’s books have won multiple awards, have been translated into 42 languages, and have sold millions of copies around the world.

 What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

Breakfast is coffee and usually Greek yogurt.

Lunch is some type of protein (eggs, tuna, turkey) and maybe a vegetable. Usually I follow lunch with another cup of coffee.

Dinner varies considerably. Often my wife and I will make something — from (gluten-free) pasta to grilled salmon to fajitas. We usually drink wine with our dinner.

Beyond that, I gave up gluten awhile back because I realized it was giving me stomach problems. But I miss bagels and pizza so much that I’ll occasionally indulge and then rue my choice. I consume a ridiculous number of eggs and could eat spinach and broccoli at every meal.

What do you eat when you’re on the run?

Hard-boiled eggs. I’ve been doing that for years.

Let's say you got to choose your last meal on Earth, what would it be?

What is your go-to comfort food?

Flaming Hot Cheetos

How do you recover after indulgent eating?

Brush my teeth and scrub my hands of the sickly red residue left by Flaming Hot Cheetos.

How do you find time for fitness?

I literally write the time and activity on my daily to-do list. (And even that doesn’t always work!)

What do you like to do for exercise?

Run on a treadmill. Weight training, planks, and squats

What are your 3 favorite workout songs?

Tubthumping (Chumbawamba)

After a challenging day, how do you destress?

Have cocktail (vodka martini, very dry, stirred, with olives) or a glass of wine with my wife.

How do you treat yourself after a long week?


Do you have a nighttime ritual?

I keep a Line-a-Day book in which I write one sentence or paragraph or quotation that stuck with me that day.

Is there a motto or saying you say to yourself that helps you?

“Get back to work."

Is there anything you’re working on changing?

I’m trying to be more social. (Spoiler alert: It’s not working.)

Why do you think so many people think being fit and successful can't coexist?

Do people believe that? Being healthy constitutes success — so if you’ve achieved the former, you’ve also achieved the latter.

What is something you know about health/fitness you wish you knew 10 years ago?

Consistency beats intensity.
