If Alannah can do it with MBT you can too. Yes, YOU! (No, we're not yelling. We just really believe in what we do.)
Growing up, Alannah was an avid horseback rider and a strong and competitive athlete. However, competitive atmospheres and perfectionist impulses drove her to severely eating disordered behavior, causing rapid weight loss and gain over ten years. Before beginning MBT, she was recovering from a serious cycle of anorexia/bulimia and battling her own unhealthy fixations on food and exercise. Alannah was also “chasing her tail” in an unproductive public relations career. Her mind was like a hamster on a wheel, thinking of nothing besides how to "fix" her body and how to avoid eating with other people.
Alannah came to me with the desire to lose weight. She seemed frustrated and hopeless. She had tried countless ‘diets’ throughout her life but none seemed to be sustainable (or healthy for that matter). Her weight was all over the place. What impressed me most about Alannah was how insanely driven she is. She wants the best for herself. Why shouldn’t she?
I suggested and sold her on the idea of eating to lose weight; specifically, that food isn’t the enemy. In fact, food is not only fuel for our bodies but it’s also the only way Alannah would lose weight and get to a point where she loved her body. I also reminded and educated her on why rest, (yes rest!) is so important.
For Alannah, my strategy was to help her get into great habits…consistently…but to let her figure out for herself how great she’d feel and look when eating more and exercising less!
Working with Adam, I was introduced to the idea of consistent, healthy eating, and decided to give it a try for a set period of time. It was a shock to me that I actually could (and SHOULD) eat, especially given my activity level! Adam and I also set weekly exercise goals centering around thirty minute time intervals (instead of hours), and he encouraged me to embrace rest days.
Most importantly, I was held accountable for my actions, which helped me to walk away from the idea of blowing my healthy habits and punishing myself for it in the following days. Adam's belief in my ability to help myself was so strong and convincing that I knew it was time to give myself the chance to become whole again.
As I stuck to my workout plans, filled out my Daily Feedbacks, and spoke with Adam regularly, I began to notice immediate changes. First of all, the gym no longer became a stressor. Instead, I began to see my daily run or swim as a stress reliever. Secondly, as I slowly shed my food fixations, I was able to rejoin my family and friends at restaurants and the dinner table. My mind unwound, my creative tendencies returned, and I felt lighter, happier.
I found the inner strength to walk away from a troublesome career to pursue a masters degree in another field entirely; I wake up each day excited to study, excited to work, ready to run. On the occasional day when I don't feel up to the task of sweating hard, I find the support I need to take a quick rest!
Additionally, I lost the weight that I had put on during my rough recovery from eating disorders without giving it a tremendous amount of thought, and am really learning to love my athletic, strong body for the fast miles it runs, the quick laps it can churn out, and its capability in managing even the most challenging horses. There were times when I thought I'd never shake my eating disordered behavior, but with MBT's amazing support and help, I've made it out of the tunnel and then some!
What did you say to yourself as you were reading Alannah's story?
It's fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don't. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can't achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
Here's the best part: I guarantee it or your money back. I sincerely believe in what we offer that much. I know MBT will be the last program you ever do or need.
