1) How did you find out about us?
I follow Brandon Turner, a real estate investor who hosts the BiggerPockets Podcast. He recommended MyBodyTutor as one of his best investments, so I looked into it.
2) What have you tried in the past?
I've tried a few diets in the past: Keto, weight watchers, even a bodybuilding diet. They tended to have short-term success, but I would quickly go back to my old eating habits. They just weren't sustainable.
3) What was the main reason, doubt or insecurity that was holding you back from signing up?
Before I signed up for MyBodyTutor, I was hesitant about a couple things. Mainly, definitely an investment to make, and I wasn't sure if it would turn out like the rest of my diets. I was also looking for something sustainable — something to change my eating habits and relationship with food for the rest of my life. After talking with Adam, I found MyBodyTutor's mission aligned with mine, so I pulled the trigger.
4) What was life like before you started working with MBT?
Before MBT, I felt like I couldn't control myself. I felt like the only way to lose weight was through restrictive diets. I found that whenever I tried something, it just wasn't sustainable. I would get frustrated and go back to my old ways of eating (my favorite was popcorn and candy, though I still enjoy both with MyBodyTutor).
5) What were your hopes before joining?
I hoped that MBT would change my mindset and break the old cycle of eating. I wanted to find the reasons why I chose unhealthy foods, thus finding an easier way to make healthy choices.
6) How is MBT different from the billion other companies out there?
MBT focuses a lot on the mindset behind eating, as well as what a healthy diet looks like. And it's not restrictive—I was able to pick healthy foods that I liked to eat, while still enjoying indulgences.
7) Where are you now?
After a few months of MBT, I've changed the way I approach food. It no longer feels impossible to maintain and lose weight. One of the biggest impacts isn't just the weight loss (down 22 pounds from when I started), but also the energy I have throughout the day. Eating this way gives me sustainable fuel for the day, and I've seen a great impact on my productivity at work, too.
8) Anything else worth sharing?
While working with MyBodyTutor, I found that I wasn't criticized or shamed. Everything is a learning point. When I tracked my weight each week, I could tie back the foods I ate and my Tutor's feedback to the results I saw. Seeing the effect of my choices each day gave me a lot of motivation to keep going, and my Tutor was great about guiding me along the way.
In addition to the daily accountability and focus on mindset, how much I learned is what separates MyBodyTutor. I've learned so much, and the framework you set up to sustainable weight loss is the best approach I've seen. I can't speak highly enough of everything, and I admire your dedication to serving others in their weight loss journey.
The lessons I learned working with you guys are ones I'll carry with me for the rest of my life, and ones I plan to teach to my future kids. I can't recommend MBT enough to anyone looking to lose weight and keep it off along with anyone who wants to increase their energy and productivity.
What did you say to yourself as you were reading Matt's story?
It's fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don't. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can't achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
