Growing up, I was fortunate to spend a lot of time playing sports. I developed a passion for baseball and earned a scholarship to the United States, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in health science. It’s funny looking back on how I ate and all of the “poor” habits I practiced during my time as an athlete. That’s the tricky part of health - we grow up developing poor habits and one day we realize we’ve overdone it. It wasn’t until I began my health science studies that I discovered a fascination for health psychology and holistic wellness. It was fun applying my learnings to my lifestyle as an athlete. Upon graduating in 2020, I knew I wanted to help people improve their lives through health.
I came to realize through studying and personal experience that my body and mind were not a given - they required attention and care to keep healthy and functioning at a high level. Even though I knew how to live healthy, I didn’t always practice healthy behaviors. I experienced this struggle first hand (I still do), and that’s coming from a student athlete who majored in health science. It became apparent to me that even though we know what we should do, it is a whole nother ball game to do the work and make it sustainable. Everyone has a unique body, mind, and lifestyle. We need to learn who we are as individuals and then implement strategies that align with our individuality. That takes a lot of time and effort. But there is a real joy in this work that everyone can experience.
I wanted to join MBT because I believe in the work they are doing and how they are doing it. I appreciate their focus on improving health through mindset, psychology, and habit. Not a lot of health companies realize the importance of these factors. There is a lot of divisiveness in the world today, and I think the underlying root cause is because people are unhealthy. We need more people living in a healthy state. There are too many people suffering needlessly from poor health and chronic disease. I want to help shift the tides and make personal health and well-being the norm. MBT is doing that one client at a time and that’s the type of work I wish to be a part of.
