I decided that my health was a priority over the recent years but didn't put my thoughts into action until last fall. I had recently transitioned from working full-time to being a full-time mama, and my husband and I had moved several hours away the same year. I googled emotional eating in the middle of the night as I was motivated to change my eating and drinking habits that I had been a slave to for many years, specifically, drinking wine and eating in a compulsive fashion to relieve stress. I came across My Body Tutor, watched the online video regarding the reasons why we eat, and committed to the program. I was impressed with the video given my training in behavioral psychology. Eating and drinking are behaviors just like any other, and if I wasn't doing so out of hunger or thirst, then I was doing so for other reasons.
I requested that my tutor have children so that he or she could understand my position. My tutor and the program were an amazing influence on my life. The positive reinforcement my tutor provided each morning was something I looked forward to. She also gave gentle suggestions and asked questions of me when I wasn't making the healthiest choices. These questions allowed me to really look at why and when I was using food and drink as a crutch in my life. By removing food and drink during those times or situations in my life that I was trying to avoid, I now more readily 1) identify the problem or issue and 2) take action to remedy the issue. For example, something as trivial as putting away the laundry instead of eating a snack or something as profound as talking to my husband rather than pouring another glass of wine, and deepening our relationship rather than avoiding conflict.
My goal was to live a life where I was at my personal best. That has been achieved and I did lose weight as well. 20 pounds in all, and I'm a whole lot lighter because of it. Physically and emotionally.
