If Dr. Kayla can do it with MBT you can too. Yes, YOU! (No, we’re not yelling. We just really believe in what we do.)
Let me start by telling you what I tell my patients: “I’m a doctor. If anyone knows how to lose weight, it’s me. But knowing and doing are two different things, and I couldn’t do it on my own, I needed help. So I asked for it."
I am a family practice doctor and I first heard about MBT when I was a resident physician. At that time I couldn’t afford it, but I saved the web page on the home screen of my iPad, “maybe someday” I thought wistfully. Fast forward several years later, and at 5’ 7.5” I weighed 190 pounds. When I started dating my husband, I weighed 150 pounds but marriage, medical school, residency, a job as an active duty military doctor in the Air Force, and two children later, I was up to 190.
Let me be clear though, I have been overweight for most of my life and my current weight was not a new phenomenon. In my early 20s, I developed a medical condition which affected my appetite and went from 200 pounds to 150 pounds because I ate very little (it was fast, probably unhealthy loss). I kept it off for a year or two (the only time in my life when my BMI was in the “normal” range) but when I met my husband we began eating out regularly, and he worked in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant and would bring home food after the restaurant closed, and I would eat a second dinner.
I knew enough about nutrition when I joined MBT that I should have been able to lose weight on my own. But I couldn’t. I knew I was overeating. I knew my portions were big. I suspected I was eating out of stress or emotions; training to be a doctor is not a walk in the park. Finally, I said to my husband, I’m doing this, just count on that money coming out of the paycheck. I need help and I’m tired of looking and feeling this way. He said “okay” and I signed up.
I was apprehensive, what if they want me to work out a lot? I don’t really like working out and frankly, I don’t have time. But from the first phone call with my tutor I was emboldened. I remember looking at old pictures of myself at 150 pounds and thinking, “is it even possible for my body to get back to that?”. But I set my goal weight at 150 and my tutor never set impossible goals for me. Sometimes my work out goal was to do 5 minutes of yoga at night, that’s it, just 5 minutes. Other times we didn’t focus on working out at all, we just focused on diet.
I never thought I could make it back to 150 without being in the gym 5 days a week, but it happened! My workout regimen didn’t change much but I’ll tell you what did: my whole attitude toward food. At 33 years old, I never thought I could stop using food for comfort, but I did! One day, after a particularly stressful day at work, my husband said “and you didn’t even stop for ice cream.” And then it hit me, holy cow, it never occurred to me to stop and get a treat to soothe the stress! I’m a changed woman!
MBT has impacted every area of my life. “Everything impacts everything” Adam likes to say. And I’ve learned that is so true. My tutor helped me see what I was doing with food. Helped realize the unmet needs I was using food to mask. My communication with my husband got better, my knowledge of myself expanded, my belief and confidence in my own emotional and mental strength expanded. Not only did MBT help me figure out my head in regards to food, but it gave me the strength of knowledge that I now have the skills to tackle challenges. I can struggle through them and make it to the other side.
This is what sets MBT apart: it is not a one-size-fits-all-eat-only-what-we-tell-you-and-you’ll-lose-weight system. It is personalized. It gets to the root of the things that are keeping you from being healthy and realizing your goals, and then helps you overcome those things and change your mindset. Food does not have to control you. You will develop new habits, they will become easier, and they will become automatic.
And one day you will walk away from an ice cream cone and be so proud of yourself you can hardly stand it! If you are on the fence, I am telling you, DO IT! I tell my patients about MBT and their philosophy. I speak to patients on a daily basis about weight loss and wellness and I tell them what I learned first hand with MBT, it’s about consistency and accountability.
If you can find those things, you will get where you want to be. And lastly, shout out to my tutor! Without her none of this would be possible. She was there for me so many times. When I didn’t know where to turn or who to cry to, there she was. At the beginning of my MBT journey when I tried on a size 18 suit for interviews and cried, there she was. When I transitioned from military to civilian life, there she was. When I hit my goal weight and fit into a size 8 pant, there she was. I can’t thank her enough. MBT is the only service of its kind that I’ve ever come across, and it is hands-down, the best money I’ve ever spent.
What did you say to yourself as you were reading Kayla’s story?
It’s fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person.
We find something they have that we don’t. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can’t achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
Here’s the best part: I guarantee it or your money back. I sincerely believe in what we offer that much. I know MBT will be the last program you ever do or need.
