1) How did you find out about us?
I felt like I needed a coach or more contact with someone who would keep me accountable. I cannot remember what I googled - but the MyBodyTutor site came up.
2) What have you tried in the past?
Jenny Craig, weight watchers, different food tracking apps, fasting and some detox diet that a naturopath recommended. There were many more through the years - many I can’t remember.
3) What was the main reason, doubt or insecurity that was holding you back from signing up?
When I saw your site and your endorsements - I had little doubt but I was concerned about the coach whom I would be paired with. I wondered - what if I do not like him or her? When we talked, you reassured me that I could change coaches if I wasn’t happy. Turns out you paired me with someone perfect for me! Whatever you do to match coaches with participants certainly works!
4) What was life like before you started working with MBT?
I had struggled with food my entire life as I was an emotional eater but the last few years, I had really packed the weight on. I no longer liked to see myself in the mirror and I had begun to hide when anyone pulled out their phone/camera. Not to mention that it truly was the worst year of my life with COVID (I’m an RN) and then 6 months later my 20 year old stepson committed suicide. It was completely devastating and shocking - no warning signs and no history of depression. He was such a joy and this was the last thing we could have ever imagined happening. My dietary habits got even worse and I was stuffing my feelings and emotions with food even more. I was pre-diabetic and my cholesterol was high. My Mother had died young from heart disease and my Father had also had heart disease and Diabetes - I was headed in the same direction as both of them.
My fear upon signing up was that I would fail yet another “diet” and also how would I cope without eating the foods I thought I enjoyed so much? Accountability sounded good but that also meant that I had to be truthful with what I was eating. I remember signing up and it took a few days to get started - I was so happy because I could stuff myself with whatever I wanted just a little longer. I seriously thought to myself ‘what have I done - I have no motivation, how am I even going to do this?’
5) What were your hopes before joining?
My hopes were that it would actually save my life to lose weight and perhaps even change my eating habits. I had turned 50 also and one of my goals had been to get into the best shape of my life by the time I was 50 which I had been unsuccessful at.
6) How is MyBodyTutor different from the billion other companies out there?
It's personalized - not one size fits all. I love how you match the coaches with the participants depending on what style of coaching we ask for. Also, there are no packaged foods - no strict rules - no drastic changes. You start with the healthy meals that you already enjoy eating - I loved this approach. In the past I would eat per guidelines of a certain diet and lose a few pounds but gain it back immediately after going back to my usual everyday foods. The MyBodyTutor way of eating is natural and easy because it's driven by your own preferences and choices.
7) How has life changed?
I have just entered the maintenance stage of the program. I lost 25 pounds - meeting my goal. I have dropped at least three sizes in pants and shirts. I feel great. I now tuck my shirts in and I got out all of my “skinny clothes” that were in storage. I wake up every day earlier than I used to and have much more energy. I literally was having diarrhea every morning prior to starting MyBodyTutor- I thought I had irritable bowel syndrome. Found out that it was just my diet. All of those symptoms are gone now. I feel differently about food also. I truly enjoy it, I do not feel guilty about eating and am not thinking about my weight every second of every day.
I now love vegetables. I went from eating very little vegetables to craving them but only the ones I like of course. I am a nurse and thought I knew so much about food and exercise - turns out that I had a lot to learn. This really has been a life changer. I can’t wait to get my A1C and Cholesterol checked. My ob-gyn saw me and had to write down the name of the program because she was so impressed with my transformation and said that so many women ask her about how to lose weight - now she has a healthy recommendation to give.
8) Anything else you’d like to share?
Stop trying to lose weight quickly by trying various fad diets or any type of diet!! They will never work long term. With MyBodyTutor, no food is bad food - there just needs to be some moderation and planning for fun foods. I really did not feel deprived either. What I imagined I would have to do to lose weight and what I actually had to do - were so different. It really was exciting to see the changes happen with what felt like little effort. I should have done this so many years ago. I wasted so much money trying other ways to lose weight.
I wanted to get into the best shape of my life by the time I was 50, and I did! MyBodyTutor has been a life-changer.
What did you say to yourself as you were reading Dawn's story?
It's fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don't. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can't achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
